• Parag Agrawal said in a tweet that Elon Musk would not be joining the Twitter board of directors.
  • The decision comes just days after the announcement that Musk would join Twitter's board.
  • "I believe this is for the best," Agrawal said.

Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal on Sunday announced Elon Musk would not be joining the social media company's board of directors.

"Elon Musk has decided not to join our Board. Here's what I can share about what happened," Agrawal's tweet began.

"The Board and I had many discussions about Elon joining the board, and with Elon directly. We were excited by the opportunity to collaborate and clear about the risks. We believed the best path forward was having Elon as a fiduciary of Twitter where he, like all board members, must act in the best interests of our company and our shareholders. The board offered him a seat," Agrawal's tweet continued.

He continued: "Elon's appointment to the board was to become officially effective 4/9, but Elon shared that same morning that he will no longer be joining the board. I believe this is for the best. We have and always will value input from our shareholders whether they are on our Board or not."

The announcement came just five days after the announcement that Musk would be appointed.

Elon Musk and Twitter did not immediately return Insider's requests for comment.
